We will be doing door-knocking and delivery of campaign material to residents in the surrounding area (with Siobhan Benita, mayoral candidate). There will also be the opportunity to contact other local members (by phone) to get them involved.
11am: group photo where Charlton Road crosses the A102. Next to Blackheath Social Club, 22 Charlton Road, SE3 7HG (nearest station: Westcombe Park). Then we will do canvassing and delivery with Siobhan and GLA candidates.
1130 onwards: if you are joining after this time, please come to the Action Day base to collect material for delivery or be paired up to go door knocking. 31 Ulundi Road, SE3 7UQ, near Maze Hill station (please note they have a dog but it hasn’t been a problem for previous Action Days)
You can attend for however long you are available, and engage in whatever activities you like. We anticipate a high level of attendance (as activists from other parts of London will be encouraged to join us), so this is an excellent opportunity for first timers to shadow campaign activities, and try things out, in a supportive environment.
At the start of the day there will be a visit by Siobhan Benita (London 2020 Mayoral Candidate) and other candidates to an area affected by the proposed Silvertown Road Tunnel. This will allow them to understand how opposing Silvertown fits in with Siobhan Benita's campaign to clean up London’s air. This will include a photo-op with local activists, which can be used to promote Siobhan Benita, opposing the Silvertown Tunnel, and publicise Greenwich Borough Liberal Democrats.
Campaign material will be focused on Siobhan Benita's campaign, and this helps build the Liberal Democrat 'brand' and presence, showing local voters we are active and have values that are important to them, in advance of a General Election likely to come before the end of the year. Come and campaign now so that residents have heard from us before the General Election campaign starts (this means more to them), and so that you are ready to help out when the Election is called!
I recommend bringing a bag to carry leaflets in, a fully-charged smartphone (if you can) for canvassing - we use an app for this: https://www.markpack.org.uk/144398/minivan-libdem-canvassing-app/, and a wooden spoon to save your fingers pushing things through letterboxes!
