GBLD call for Express Transit route funding for Thamesmead
Commenting on the Chancellor’s announcement in today’s Autumn Statement that the government would provide funding for a rapid transit bus network in Thamesmead, the Greenwich Borough Liberal Democrats said:
“Having supported the development of the Express Transit route in Thamesmead for several years, the Greenwich Borough Liberal Democrats welcome the announcement that the project will finally receive some funding.
“However, given the consistent broken promises on public transport funding from this Government, we await the delivery of this with bated breath.
"Across the borough it is vital that we create more liveable, high-quality communities with the affordable housing our borough needs by delivering the supporting infrastructure required.
"In Thamesmead that means funding the planned DLR extension so that the thousands of planned homes, which are contingent on access to local public transport, can be built.
“It’s time for all parties involved: the Conservative Government, TfL, and Sadiq Khan, to stop politicking and get round the negotiation table to deliver the full public transport investment that Thamesmead has long deserved."
