One Year On from the 2024 General Election

One year ago, the general election restored a powerful Liberal Democrat voice to British politics. The election of 72 MPs was the culmination of years of dedicated work, providing our party with a strong platform to fight for a fairer deal for communities across the country.
In Parliament, this strengthened team is providing the effective, constructive opposition Britain needs. Our MPs have led the charge against the sewage scandal, consistently challenged the government on unacceptable NHS delays, and have become the leading voice for the UK’s millions of unpaid carers.
This same commitment to challenging power and standing up for residents is what drives our local campaigning in Greenwich. In Shooters Hill, local campaigner Kirstie is fighting the Labour-run Council’s “callous disposal of Green Garth, part of the Shrewsbury House listed estate and the Equestrian Centre, our Olympic legacy, without consultation”. This pattern of Labour not listening to residents and taking communities for granted locally is reflected in Labour's priorities nationally.
It’s the same story at the Royal Arsenal Quarters, where our campaigner Steve is leading the fight for residents facing building safety issues. Our Liberal Democrat MPs are holding the Labour government to account, continuing the fight they led in opposition to demand justice for leaseholders and ensure that developers—not residents—pay to make homes safe.
One year on, our 72 MPs are showing that the Liberal Democrats are providing the real opposition in Westminster, in the same way that our local team is fighting against Labour’s policies in Greenwich Borough.
