Our 2023 AGM

28 Nov 2023
Getting ready for the AGM

At our AGM last Tuesday night we heard from Kirstie Shedden and Valerie Stainton, touching on some of the highlights of the Autumn Conference  and plans for a Policy Forum initiative starting next year. We then heard from Ulysse Abbate (PPC Eltham and Chislehurst), Chris Annous (PPC Greenwich and Woolwich) and Josh Matthews (GLA Candidate for Greenwich and Lewisham) who spoke on their thinking and plans for the GLA and General Elections expected next year and on the importance of planning and building for the 2026 Local Elections. We were also pleased to announce that Pierce Chalmers had been approved as our PPC for Erith and Thamesmead.

We also elected the Executive officers and members who will take over from 1 Jan 2024 onwards.

While this year has been one of consolidation and planning, and the first tests of the electorate will be next year, our focus has been on the Local Elections scheduled for 2026. We need to concentrate on securing councillors once again in order to strengthen the opposition to what is now an overbearing and out of touch Labour administration. I urged as many of our Greenwich members to support our campaign teams – through delivering and canvassing, but also by working the telephones, providing commentary on local issues, writing copy, designing print, working on social media, hosting, and organising events and most importantly fundraising.

The next event that we would like to welcome you to is a talk with Rob Blackie, our London LibDem Mayoral candidate which is on Wednesday 24th January at 7pm at St Alfege Church Hall in Greenwich. Rob is a passionate campaigner and has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to tackling the problems that London faces. He will talk about his campaign to become Mayor of London followed by a Q&A session. This is a joint Greenwich and Lewisham Lib Dem event with our our GLA constituency partner. It is a free to attend and a glass of wine and light refreshments will be provided.

You can sign up to the event with Rob Blackie here.
