Manifesto for 2026 Borough Council elections
Elections to Greenwich Borough Council take place on Thursday 7th May. Here's our plan for Greenwich.
Greenwich is a borough of historic buildings, wonderful green spaces, active community groups and hardworking residents. But there is also poverty, crime, problems with our basic services such as road and pavement maintenance and lack of affordable housing and transport provision. There is also a lack of real consultation with residents in our borough. New ideas and solutions to a raft of issues are needed. The council needs new voices to bring about effective change and stand up for residents.
Liberal Democrats are campaigning to:
Tackle the cost of living crisis by:
- Keeping council tax increases as low as possible.
- Targeting help to those who need it most.
- Building genuinely affordable housing to improve life for people living in Greenwich
Promote businesses in our borough by:
- Keeping business rate increases as low as possible
- Supporting independent businesses and start-ups
- Promoting affordable workspace and hubs for creative and green industries.
- Making sure every penny counts - spending your money wisely
Make us a safer and cleaner borough by:
- Tackling fly tippers and cleaning up litter
- Repairing pavements and roads to make them safe and accessible for all users
- Campaigning for visible neighbourhood policing, working with police and partners to secure properly resourced local teams.
Build Community by:
- Improving the lives of young people of all ages - supporting youth clubs, toy libraries, increasing out of school hours provision, consulting with Greenwich Young People’s Council
- Protecting community spaces -safeguarding libraries, leisure centres, parks and play areas at the heart of local life.
- Ensuring housing developers are paying for and building new community spaces and play areas
- Ensuring there is proper consultation with residents over proposed changes affecting their wards and Greenwich as a whole - not just giving people a tick box exercise
For Housing and transport improvements by:
- Working effectively with our transport providers so that there are more buses and new routes to encourage more people to use public transport and increase accessibility for all users
- Building homes that are safe from fire and flooding
- Repairing and retrofitting substandard housing
- Making sure that homes for families are a priority
